Time:  8pm EST (12pm PST)

Summary:

Measurement of sex and adrenal hormones in a full, meaningful profile is essential to accurate diagnosis and effective treatment for males and females presenting with hormone-related complaints, including but not limited to symptoms of peri- and post-menopause, menstrual problems, infertility, poor libido, andropause, low testosterone, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), risk of cancer, and depression, to name a few. Solid information is especially crucial before embarking on bio-identical hormone replacement (BHRT). Why such testing is not the standard of care for women, as it is for men, remains an enigma. At the same time, much disinformation clouds the question of how to obtain accurate, clinically relevant data that truly illuminates diagnostic and treatment decisions.

How steroid hormones are metabolized via which intermediates (metabolomics) before being detoxified in phase II metabolism is critical to making treatment decisions. Neither serum, blood spots, saliva, nor spot urine specimen lend themselves to accurate, reproducible, and relevant assessment of hormone production, turnover, and metabolism; they neither reflect efficacy of treatment nor support responsible decision-making regarding treatment. The only accurate, reliable, cost-effective means of obtaining a comprehensive hormone profile continues to be a urine specimen collected over a 24-hour period and analyzed via gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GCMSMS). How to choose a reputable, experienced laboratory to conduct hormone analyses will be addressed, as will treatment modalities which may reduce risk of hormone-related negative outcomes.

In this webinar, Dr. Nordt will help you understand:

  • Why and How to Measure for Better Diagnosis and Treatment.
  • Why Spot Tests Fail.
  • Why Only a 24-hour Urine Specimen Provides a True Picture.

Dr. Frank Nordt, founder and CEO of Rhein Consulting Laboratories, earned his B.S. in chemistry at the University of Illinois, Chicago, and his Ph.D. at the Oregon Health and Sciences University with a dissertation on the physicochemical properties of red blood cells. Following a postdoctoral fellowship at the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry in Munich, Germany, Dr. Nordt joined Sandoz (Novartis), a major pharmaceutical firm, researching stroke treatments at its headquarters in Basel, Switzerland. Recruited back to the U.S. by his alma mater, Dr. Nordt joined OHSU’s Neurology faculty before committing full-time to Rhein Consulting Laboratories in 1991.

Dr. Nordt has published extensively and is recognized internationally for his contributions to academic research, which he continues to undertake in collaboration with university and private-sector research teams worldwide. In recent years, he has participated in drug development with a major pharmaceutical firm and in NIH-funded academic research examining hormonal consequences of diurnal and nocturnal shift work. His reputation is unrivaled as the scientific thought leader in hormone profiling, its analysis, interpretation, and clinical and research applications.

Utilizing today’s most sophisticated analytical equipment, Rhein delivers patient results in 3 to 7 business days (while some competitors require weeks, even months). Rhein also offers practitioners the unique service of individual consultation with Dr. Nordt at no charge, as well as matchless customer service, even submitting insurance forms for convenient patient reimbursement.
