How does using my HSA/ FSA save me money?

HSA/FSA accounts were created so individuals could use pre-tax money to pay for eligible health related expenses.
Because HSA/FSAs use pre-tax money, you’re getting more purchasing power for your dollars. Rather than pay taxes on income and then spend it on health items, qualified customers can use pre-tax funds to invest in root cause interventions
Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) are programs that allow you to set aside pre-tax dollars for eligible healthcare expenses. If you're unsure whether you have an HSA or FSA account, check with your employer or insurance company.
HSA/FSAs use pre-tax money so that you get more purchasing power for your dollars. Rather than pay taxes on income and then spend it on health items, you can use pre-tax funds to invest in your health. Depending on your tax bracket, you could save 20-30% or more on your wellness purchases.
Annual Contribution Limits:
- HSA Individual: Up to $4,150 pre-tax per year
- HSA Family: Up to $8,300 pre-tax per year (plus $1,000 additional if age 55+)
- FSA Individual: Up to $3,200 pre-tax per year
Yes! All Designs for Health products are eligible for HSA/FSA reimbursement through Truemed when you qualify for a Letter of Medical Necessity. Please check the terms of your HSA or FSA plan. You are responsible for any individual tax implications.
Simply select Truemed as your payment option at checkout and use your HSA/FSA card like any other credit card. If you don’t have sufficient HSA/FSA funds, you can split your payment between your credit card and HSA/FSA card.
Yes! If you prefer to use your regular credit card, Truemed will send you instructions on how to submit for reimbursement from your HSA/FSA administrator after you receive your Letter of Medical Necessity.
A Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) makes your wellness purchases qualified medical expenses, just like a visit to the doctor’s office or pharmaceutical products. Your Truemed LMN satisfies all IRS requirements to make your wellness purchases fully reimbursable.
Most Letters of Medical Necessity are issued within minutes to an hour. In some cases, it may take up to 2-5 hours if additional review is needed based on your individual qualification survey.
No, there is no cost to you when shopping with Designs for Health through Truemed.
You can still use Truemed for partial reimbursement. For example, if you purchase eligible items for $100 but only have $60 in your account, you can reimburse $60 with your tax-free funds (paying the remaining $40 normally).
You can use your HSA/FSA dollars all year long. However, FSA dollars expire at the end of the year and unused money may not roll over. Make sure to spend your FSA dollars before December 31st—use it, so you don’t lose it! HSA funds typically roll over year to year.
HSA/FSA cards are sometimes restricted to specific payment setups. If your card is declined, you can:
- Try using your HSA/FSA card through the Truemed checkout gateway
- Use a regular credit/debit card and submit for reimbursement later
