What This Product Is

FloraMyces™ contains 500 mg (or 10 billion viable cells at the time of manufacture) of the nonpathogenic yeast Saccharomyces boulardii per serving. S. boulardii possesses probiotic activity that promotes microbial diversity and supports gastrointestinal health and immune function. This strain does not require refrigeration and can survive passage through the harsh gastric environment, withstanding high acidity, bile, and heat.*

S. boulardii may support normal colonization of the gut microbiome with commensal (beneficial) species by competing against undesirable bacteria and yeast species. The cell wall of S. boulardii yeast may also have prebiotic properties by promoting the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), which are key metabolites produced by the microbiota in the large intestine and the preferred fuel source of intestinal cells.*

Mechanism of Action

Microbial Diversity and Competitive Exclusion

S. boulardii supports normal colonization of the gut microbiome with beneficial species by competing against undesirable bacteria and yeast species. It creates an environment that is more supportive of commensal microbes and less hospitable to potentially pathogenic microbes.*

Short-Chain Fatty Acid Production and Gut Barrier Support

The cell wall of S. boulardii yeast may have prebiotic properties by promoting the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), which are key metabolites of intestinal microbiota and the preferred fuel source of intestinal cells. These SCFAs promote a healthy inflammatory response in the gut, gut barrier integrity, and mucosal cell immune function.*

Medication Recovery and Immune Support

S. boulardii may promote re-establishment of a healthy microbiome after the use of certain medications. It may also promote immune function and gut health by supporting microbial diversity and gut barrier integrity.*

  • Applications
  • Individuals seeking to promote microbial diversity and gut health*
  • Those looking for probiotic support that does not require refrigeration*
  • Individuals recovering microbial health after the use of certain medications*
  • Those seeking immune function support through gut health*
  • Individuals with low stomach acid seeking gastrointestinal microbial support*

Product Questions

How does FloraMyces differ from bacterial probiotics?

FloraMyces contains S. boulardii, a beneficial yeast rather than bacteria. As a yeast, it is naturally resistant to antibiotics, so it may be used alongside certain medications without being affected. It does not require refrigeration and has high survivability through stomach acid, bile, and heat. This makes it a complementary option to traditional bacterial probiotics.*

Why is S. boulardii beneficial for gut barrier function?

S. boulardii may promote the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), which are the preferred fuel source of intestinal cells. SCFAs support gut barrier integrity, promote a healthy inflammatory response in the gut, and support mucosal cell immune function.*

Who may benefit most from FloraMyces?

Individuals seeking to promote microbial diversity and gut health, particularly those recovering microbial health after the use of certain medications. Those with low stomach acid, individuals seeking a shelf-stable probiotic, and anyone looking for yeast-based probiotic support for immune function and gut barrier health.*
